Collection Maintenance

COLLECTION MAINTENANCE AND WEEDING/DESELECTING

The Archmere Academy Library recognizes the importance of maintaining a collection of current, appropriate, and useful materials. On a continuous basis, the school librarian will remove obsolete and unused resources from the working collection. The advice of academic departments is sought when appropriate. Infrequently used resources are retained if they contribute to the excellence of the collection. The librarian will use the guidelines in the “CREW Weeding Guidelines for Fiction, Nonfiction, Multimedia and E-books” chart as guidance when deselecting books.

On an annual basis, the school librarian will conduct an inventory of the school library collection and equipment. The inventory can be used to determine losses and remove damaged or worn materials which may then be considered for replacement.

A weeding schedule, below, will be followed as closely as possible, with any changes made at the discretion of the school librarian.
